A simply stunning vacation home on the
water's edge of the almost deserted and absolutely pristine (the house's
drinking water is pumped directly from the lake...) Lake Tarawera.
Set amid undisturbed, lush sub-tropical rain forest, Lake Tarawera
is the largest of a series of lakes which surround the volcano Mount
Tarawera, in the North Island. It is located a gorgeous 20
minutes drive to the east of Rotorua, a city known best for
its geothermal activity (geysers, hot mud pools, natural hot springs) and Maori
cultural sites, 2 hour drive south-east of Auckland (the main
international airport) and a 45 minute drive from Matamata, with the
preserved site of Hobbiton from the Lord of the Rings!
Swim, take walks around the lake's edge, fish (one of New
Zealand's best rainbow trout fly fishing spots is the inlet to the Lake), hike
Mount Tarawera, sail, water ski....sit in the window seat and look at the
uninterrupted view of the Lake and the Mountain, cook, warm up in
front of the fire....a wonderful place to just 'be'....whatever the
This is a 5 bedroom home that sleeps 10 comfortably, with an
additional two person secluded 'outhouse'.
Available for a two week stay (except over
Christmas/January and Easter holidays), at a time mutually agreeable with
the owners, courtesy of Ella Koehling's grandfather (Grade 1).
